Day One Hundred and Fifteen - Andy 2.0
07. November 2008

Today with the ankle finally feeling better I did my first set of new training - a 5km Fartlek run. For the uninitiated among you Fartlek is…

The word Fartlek is a Swedish word, which means, ‘speed play’. It was first used on the pine needle paths of the Swedish forests by Gosta Holmer, coach to world record holders Gunder Haag and Arne Anderson. Fartlek training means you run as you please and play around with the speed element of the training session. - from Shelter

I split the run into five sections with a run, sprint and then recovery jog in each. The sprints actually felt very good today - especially sprinting up the paddock hill, though it was very tiring! So I’m also getting back onto the good diet, last few days haven’t been as bad as the cake filled oneBIGweekend!

Anyhoo, I’m going out to buy a watch so that I can do some interval training and a reflective top so that I can do some running early morning and in the evening! Blessings…

Day One Hundred and Twelve - oneBIGouch!
04. November 2008

So oneBIGweekend went really well, we had some superb events, met new young people and families, had an awesome Sunday morning service and I had a weekend with a house full of happy people :) grand! The only bad impact of the weekend was the impact on my weak ankle which swelled up pretty impressively and has led to a few days of RICE (Rest, ice, compression, elevation) and I’m hoping to get out again tomorrow for at least a short run.

I did a good 5 session on Saturday morning, making sure to take the last mile at quite a speed with two sprints in it. I’m also hoping to cycle up the distance again at least once a week - 5km is my minimum run length now, so I’m hoping to stick in a 10km and even a 15km in every so often!

Anyhoo, I’m on a day off and have left my tea brewing - stay in touch :)

Day One Hundred and Six - Running leggings are the new sexy!
29. October 2008

Well I’ve had a couple of incredible runs over the past few days over the Westwood with only one little problem - it’s freezing - literally! I managed to get a lift with the lovely Jenkins to Sheffield Meadowhall shopping centre and as well as purchasing a winter wardrobe (I’ve learnt from last year!), I also got myself some running gloves, a cheap beanie hat and a pair of running leggings.

If I’m honest I’m worried about the leggings. I may have lost some weight, but I’m still “meaty” and my thighs are beasts! But the need to stay warm will defeat me need to look good and so I’m sure tomorrow night I’ll end up at the running club with them on!

oneBIGweekend preparation is going well, lots more to do, but really excited about the whole thing now!! Anyhoo I need some sleep. God Bless…
