Day Seven - A week in review….
21. July 2008

So today wasn’t the greatest of days, most of it was taken by traveling on the train with a variety of odd looking people around me, and I once again missed the fruit and veg targets :( I did however get some exercise in…

Taking the week as a whole it hasn’t been too bad. I’ve done more exercise in the past week than the year leading up to it! I’ve covered around 12 miles, exercised for more than 300 minutes and eaten a lot more fruit and vegetables than I have before. I’ve also lost a little weight (though I’ll confess the Grandparents 50th Wedding Anniversary party and a comfort meal after traveling on the train probably haven’t helped that too much!).

I’ve also discovered some great music in the form of some beautiful The Killers dance mixes and Stereo MCs, as well as rediscovering The Automatic, pulp, Razorlight and the Scissor Sisters! Track of the week however is The New Radicals “you get what you give”, I’ve places the lyrics below to act as an inspiration to us all :)

New Radicals - You Get What You Give Lyrics

First we run and then we laugh till we cry
But when the night is falling, and you cannot find the light
If you feel your dream is dying
Hold tight, You’ve got the music in you
Don’t let go, You’ve got the music in you
One dance left, This world is gonna pull through
Don’t give up, You’ve got a reason to live
Can’t forget you only get what you give

Four a. m. we ran a miracle mile
We’re flat broke, but hey we do it in style
God’s flying in for your trial
This whole damn world can fall apart
You’ll be ok follow your heart
You’re in harms way
I’m right behind
Now say you’re mine

Fly high
What’s real can’t die
You only get what you give

Day Six - Time for a serious jog………
20. July 2008

After a week of running a couple of miles a day I decided to finish the week with a ‘”serious jog” running up to the motorway roundabout and back from my folks house in Loughborough (approx 7/8 km). It was quite something having kept to smaller distances and only being a week in, and there was also a horrid hill on the way back that was pretty steep, but I managed to keep going and ran the whole thing in under 50 minutes at what I’ll call a cautious slow pace.

Today was really about making a decision on what I’m going to be doing over the next few months distance wise and stuff, and I’m looking at entering a couple of 5km races before October and a couple of 10km before December. That leaves the new year clear for some longer distance considerations….

So exercise quota complete, fluid quota no problem and an apple short of the fruit and veg quota, but a pretty good day all round… six days down, two hundred and two till the big run!!! My question today - anyone fancy joining me for some 5/10kms?!

Day Five - Wet weather and road trips…
19. July 2008

With the grandparents 50th Wedding anniversary coming up and the prospect of spending most of the day in the car it took a lot of motivation to get up and go running this morning - especially as it was raining by the bucketload! Visability was actually so poor that I ended off running without glasses to improve my vision - until they have glasses with window wipers, I aint going to be able to run in them through the rain!

I also learnt another lesson about running in the rain - all I’ll say is I was running in white shorts and leave the rest to your imagination…..

Thought I’d pose an exciting question today…. what are good songs to run to? they need to either have a really good beat to them or have some sort of lyrical encouragement! At the moment I’m running to a 45 minute mix I got from Napster with New Radicals, Automatic, Sissors Sisters and all sorts of other bits of rock music turned dance tracks on it. Comment your suggestions!
